Track Name: The Highway State
it's a rat race man.
there's left-handed jughandles,
everyone's going like 90 miles an hour.
congestion can get pretty bad.

you can see all the taillights of all the cars in front of you
and you're um heading towards New York City
through the Meadowlands.

all roads lead to New York
and there are just these sort of concrete barriers
that are really close to the side view mirror of your car.
it feels like uh you're going to hit 'em but you never really do.
i don't know what else to say,
i'mma hang up.

the highway is a snapshot of humanity.
whenever I'm in somebody's car
on the highway
i get really quiet
and people think it's because i don't want to talk to them
and i just like to watch the other drivers
'cause when i watch them,
i get to see so many different types of people,
experiencing all these different types of things.
and sometimes i look over
and i see a bunch of friends on a trip together,
laughing, and having a good time.
and i get excited
about the next time that that'll be me
and i'll get to do that with my friends.
and i'll look over sometimes
and i'll see a really happy family together
and i think about how bad i want that someday
then other times i'll look over
and i'll see a family having an argument
and i wonder if they're always like that
and hope they're not.
and then i'll look over at another car
and i'll see somebody who's really upset.
and i wonder what's the next thing that's going to get me upset.

what's coming for me.

concrete lines,
people who love cars
stuck in between
other people who love cars.

the full spectrum
of life and people

and i can't think of anything else
that brings us all together like that
without us even realizing it
or or or trying to do that
on purpose
it just sort of happens.
